Symposium International dance festival brings over 400 dancers to Heraklion and Chania

The third edition of the Symposium International dance festival will take place in Heraklion and Chania from September 4 to 7, 2026, organizers said.

More than 400 dancers from Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Germany are set to perform Greek and international dances at a large show in Heraklion on Saturday, September 5, at the Gate of Jesus in the Promachonas bastion.

Before the show, organizers said a ceremonial procession carrying flags and banners will cross Heraklion’s central points, conveying images of peace and the unity of cultures. The Municipality of Heraklion Philharmonic Orchestra, with 40 musicians, will accompany the procession.

Throughout the festival, 17 internationally recognized instructors will give dance lessons, according to organizers. The program also includes feasts combining dance performances with Cretan food.

A big party in Chania

On the evening of Sunday, September 6, 2026, the old harbor in Chania will host what organizers described as a large party featuring dances from every continent, ranging from Latin America to Asia.

Organizers said this year’s edition includes more than 200 participants from Turkey, a record for the festival.

The event is organized by producer Dora Satolia, who has also staged the International Zeibekiko Festival (Izefa), the Superstars Dance Shows in Athens and the Venigrefest Greek dance festival in Venice. The festival adds to a wider calendar of Events in Crete this September, including Chania’s Mikis Theodorakis Festival and Heraklion’s Festival of the Walls.
