Snow dusts the peaks of the White Mountains in Crete

Snow has appeared on the higher peaks of Crete’s White Mountains (Lefka Ori), whitening the summits and altering the look of the mountainous interior of the island.

The mountain landscape is gradually taking on a wintry appearance, with the snow-covered peaks offering an early seasonal sign that colder days are approaching. The change follows a stretch of unsettled autumn weather, after a three-day storm with hail and strong winds had already swept across the island earlier in the week.

The White Mountains, among the highest and most rugged ranges on Crete, are known for their network of gorges, including those listed among the island’s gorges in Crete, and typically hold snow at altitude well into the colder months.
