Military C-130 makes emergency landing at Heraklion airport after technical problem

A military transport aircraft, a C-130, made an emergency landing at Heraklion airport around midday on Thursday after reporting a technical problem, according to Cretalive.
Authorities said relevant emergency protocols were activated immediately after the problem was reported. The fire service was also dispatched to the scene, but scaled back its response a short time later after determining there was no cause for concern.
No further details on the nature of the technical problem or the aircraft’s unit were given in the initial report.
The airport, officially known as Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport, is Crete’s busiest, having recently handled 60,000 passengers over a single weekend. The facility has also been the subject of a separate, unrelated dispute over airport land, after the Heraklion council backed a claim to 32.4% of the airport’s land.
