Three-day storm with hail and strong winds to hit Crete through Wednesday, meteo.gr forecasts

A series of successive weather disturbances will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail and strong winds to large parts of Greece, including Crete, from Monday through Wednesday, according to meteo.gr, the weather service of the National Observatory of Athens.

On Monday, strong rain is expected in the southern parts of Macedonia, the eastern parts of Thessaly and Sterea Ellada, the Aegean islands and Crete, meteo.gr said. Thunderstorms are also forecast in coastal and island areas. On Tuesday, the phenomena are expected to continue in eastern and southern regions, persisting into Wednesday.

Temperatures will gradually fall across the country. On Monday, October 26, maximum values will not exceed 19-22°C. On Tuesday, October 27, highs will reach 18-21°C, while western areas, Crete and the Dodecanese will see maximums of 22-23°C. A further drop in temperature is expected on Wednesday.

Winds to reach 8 Beaufort

Winds over the seas will gradually strengthen, reaching 7 and locally 8 Beaufort on Monday and Tuesday in both the Ionian and Aegean, meteo.gr said. Similar warnings have accompanied other recent systems affecting the island, including a forecast that Crete faces winds up to 8 Beaufort earlier this month, and a separate alert from the Heraklion port authority over similarly strong gusts.

Monday’s forecast for Crete

According to meteo.gr’s forecast for Crete, Monday will bring strong rain and thunderstorms across the island. Winds are expected to blow variable and strong, reaching up to 7 Beaufort. Maximum temperatures will fall, ranging from 13 to 22°C.

The latest system follows a pattern of unsettled autumn weather on the island, after a previous storm brought rain and thunderstorms to Crete overnight into Saturday, according to meteo.gr.
