Lasithi restaurants offer customers a different olive oil experience

Restaurants in the Lasithi region offered customers a different “olive oil experience” as part of a new pilot program launched by the Lasithi Chamber of Commerce, called “Restaurant + Olive Oil.”

Olive oil is linked to the region’s history and culture, the Chamber said, describing it as the product that represents the area’s identity.

Program goals

The pilot program, carried out across Lasithi, aims to showcase the prefecture’s extra virgin olive oil and connect it directly with the hospitality experience, according to the Chamber. The initiative reflects a wider effort on the island to link olive tourism with local gastronomy. This mirrors broader efforts to connect food traditions with Crete’s tourism experiences.

Local olive oil has also drawn attention beyond the dining table. Research continues to highlight the role of Cretan diet staples such as olive oil in supporting heart health.
