Heraklion to host Greece's only public military air show on November 7

Heraklion will be the only city in Greece to host a Hellenic Air Force celebration featuring a public aerial display, scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at Karavolas, according to Cretalive.

The event falls one day before the Hellenic Air Force’s feast day on November 8, which honors its patron, the Archangel Michael. Preparations for the celebration have reportedly been under way for some time, arranged through discussions held away from public attention.

Buses carry Air Force branding around the city

For the past two weeks, two buses operated by Heraklion’s urban KTEL service have been circulating around the city decorated in Hellenic Air Force colors and symbols ahead of the event. The buses will continue running across Heraklion for the coming month, until the celebration takes place, according to organizers.

Giorgos Kostakis, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel serving as coordinator of the celebration, told Cretalive that the branded buses resulted from coordination and cooperation with the Heraklion urban KTEL. He said the two buses “will circulate everywhere in the city for the next month,” until the celebration is held, in order to build festive anticipation for the occasion.

Further details on the program for the November 7 event, including the schedule of the aerial display, have not yet been released.
