Platanias hosts 16th “Earth – Culture – Tourism” festival on September 27
The Municipality of Platanias and its public benefit enterprise, the Koinofelis Epicheirisi Dimou Platania (K.E.D.I.P.), will hold the 16th “Earth – Culture – Tourism” Festival on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 19:30 in Platanias square, the municipality said. The event, organized in collaboration with the Region of Crete, forms part of this year’s “Cultural Summer 2026” program.
Now an established fixture in the local calendar, the festival celebrates Cretan land, its products and the culture of its people. Organizers say the aim is to showcase the quality and richness of local produce, support and promote local production, and introduce residents and visitors to the tradition and culture of Crete.
Focus on Cretan wine
This year’s edition is dedicated in particular to Cretan wine and its by-products. Visitors will have the chance to learn about and take part in the process of making wine and tsikoudia, sample wine-based Cretan products, and taste wines and other products of Cretan land, according to the municipality.
The evening will close with traditional music and dancing, bringing together local production, tradition, culture and Cretan hospitality.
The 16th festival marks the culmination of this year’s Municipality of Platanias events under “Cultural Summer 2026 – Earth – Culture – Tourism Festival,” completing a cycle of cultural activities held across the municipality throughout the summer.
Other municipalities across Crete have hosted similar cultural gatherings this month. In Palaiochora, the Kataligariou cultural association held two culture evenings honoring women, while Chersonisos organized a week of “Days of Tourism” events.
