German tourist falls off cliff while hiking in Sfakia

A 68-year-old German tourist fell down a cliff while hiking in Sfakia, landing on rocks near the shore. The exact cause of the fall is not known, according to local reports.

The man was walking along a trail at Marmara in Sfakia, an area that draws hikers exploring Crete’s outdoor experiences, when he slipped and fell onto rocks close to the beach.

The Fire Service unit in Anopoli was immediately mobilized to rescue the tourist. According to initial reports, the man was conscious and did not appear to have suffered serious injuries.

A Coast Guard vessel that had been alerted transported the injured man by sea from Marmara to the Sfakia Health Center, where he received first aid. According to information reported by ertnews.gr, doctors did not consider it necessary to transfer him to Chania General Hospital.
