SomCon offers container storage for hotels renovating after Crete’s tourist season

As Crete’s tourist season winds down, hotel and accommodation operators are beginning seasonal renovation work, and the Heraklion-based company SomCon says it is supplying containers for temporary storage during the process.

Hoteliers and owners of short-term rental properties typically use the months between seasons to review the past year and plan upgrades ranging from refreshing a few rooms to replacing large amounts of equipment. Before renovation crews begin work, rooms usually need to be cleared of beds, mattresses, furniture, linens and appliances, which must be moved and stored until the work is finished.

For a small short-term rental unit, a lack of storage space can become a practical problem. For a hotel renovating many rooms at once, the company says the need for space is greater, since contractors and materials also require room to work in an organized way.

Temporary container placement

According to SomCon, a container can be placed on-site for the duration of renovation work, allowing furniture and equipment to be moved out of rooms under renovation while staying close to the property until needed again. The company offers containers for rent or purchase, which it says allows the arrangement to be adjusted to the length of the project and the volume of equipment involved.

“For a hotel business carrying out a renovation, time and the proper organization of space are decisive. What we want to offer is an immediately available and flexible solution, so that the business can secure the storage space it needs, for as long as it needs it, close to its premises,” said Minas Somarakis, founder of SomCon.

More than 600 containers across the island

Based in Heraklion, SomCon says it serves businesses across Crete. “We have more than 600 containers in Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion, Ierapetra and Sitia, in different sizes and specifications, so the choice can be adapted to the volume of equipment and the needs of each business,” Somarakis said.
