German tourist, 65, reported missing in Crete since September 27, family says

The family of a 65-year-old German tourist, Thomas Bechert, says he has been missing since September 27, last seen in Georgioupolis, in the Municipality of Apokoronas, Chania. Relatives are appealing for any information that could help locate him.
According to the man’s relatives, Bechert had planned to travel on to eastern Crete, but he has not contacted his family since that day and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The family says its concern is heightened by Bechert’s health, as he has a heart condition and diabetes and requires daily medication, including insulin. Relatives say the length of time without any sign from him is adding to their distress as they hope for information that could confirm his location.
Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge of Bechert’s presence or movements to contact the police to assist in the search. The case comes amid a string of recent tourist safety incidents on the island, including a German tourist’s fall from a cliff while hiking in Sfakia.
