Heraklion port handles over 32,000 passengers over long weekend

The port of Heraklion saw a sharp rise in traffic over the long weekend, with tens of thousands of travelers passing through its ferry and cruise terminals, according to official figures.

A total of 36 ferry arrivals and departures were recorded, carrying 32,163 passengers, 6,138 private cars, 1,391 trucks and 611 motorcycles, the figures show.

Cruise traffic was also significant during the same period, with 4,648 cruise passengers arriving in Heraklion aboard three cruise ship calls.

Despite the increased volume, port operations proceeded smoothly.

Increased security measures

The Central Port Authority of Heraklion had implemented additional order measures, which allowed the heavy passenger and vehicle traffic to be managed safely, without incidents or delays, according to the port authority.
