Cruise ship Sun Princess docks at Souda with 4,659 passengers

The cruise ship Sun Princess docked at Souda port in Chania on the morning of Tuesday, August 18, carrying 4,659 passengers, according to CretaOne.
The ship arrived at around 8:00 a.m. as part of a seven-day cruise through the Eastern Mediterranean. The journey began in Civitavecchia, the port of Rome, and includes stops at several popular destinations in the region before ending in Piraeus.
Passengers explore Chania
Passengers aboard the Sun Princess had the opportunity to visit Souda and the wider Chania area during the ship’s stay, CretaOne reported. The arrival adds to steady cruise and air traffic into the region this summer; separate data show Chania airport passenger traffic rising in July compared with the previous year.
Cruise ship arrivals have also been a notable feature of the tourist season on Crete’s northern coast more broadly. In Heraklion, port authorities recently reported that Heraklion port handled over 52,000 arrivals in a ten-day period amid the August rush.
