Chania airport has over 346,000 international seats scheduled for September and October

More than 346,000 international flight seats are scheduled for Chania’s “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” airport in September and October, according to data from the INSETE Airdata Tracker, which sources its figures from OAG.

The data show 207,978 international seats scheduled for September and 138,184 for October, bringing the two-month total to 346,162.

Season extension

Tourism officials view the sustained international flight schedule as a key condition for hotels and other tourism businesses in the region to extend their operating season beyond the traditional July-August peak.

Chania’s inbound market includes a significant presence from the United Kingdom and Scandinavian countries, alongside other European markets, according to the report. This diversified market mix is described as supportive for the destination during the months following the July-August peak.

Seats do not guarantee arrivals

The report notes that the scheduled capacity for September and October does not by itself guarantee a corresponding increase in visitor arrivals, but reflects the scale of flight capacity that remains available to the destination.

Chania’s hinterland, gastronomy, hiking and nature-based activities, culture and mild climate are cited as elements that could complement the region’s traditional “sun and sea” tourism model during the autumn months.
