European "All Crete Blue-Green" program brings free sport and wellness events to Chania and Heraklion

The European program “All Crete Blue-Green” is coming to Crete as part of European Week of Sport 2026, offering a series of free activities in Chania and Heraklion later this month, organizers said.

According to the schedule announced by organizers, talks and workshops will take place in Chania from September 23 to 26, followed by talks and workshops in Heraklion from September 27 to 30. Exercise and wellness activities are set to run across the island from September 23 to 30.

Organizers said the program aims to highlight the benefits of exercising in the natural environment and to encourage people of all ages to incorporate more movement, contact with nature and healthy habits into their daily lives.

Talks, workshops and outdoor activities

The program is expected to include talks and presentations by Greek and European experts, along with hands-on workshops. Sports and recreational activities are planned in the sea, on beaches, in parks and in other outdoor spaces, alongside actions focused on mental health and wellbeing, environmental awareness and inclusion for different age and social groups. Readers interested in outdoor pursuits on the island can find more listed among experiences in Crete.

Representatives of sports and social organizations from European countries are expected to take part, presenting practices related to what organizers describe as “blue and green” exercise, ecopsychology, social inclusion and active citizen participation.

Coordination and participants

The project is coordinated by the Athletic and Cultural Association “Anemos,” with the participation of organizations from 10 European countries, local government bodies, the Metropolitan College, sports clubs, and professionals in exercise, health and wellness, according to organizers.

All activities will be free and open to the public, organizers said, giving residents and visitors to Crete the opportunity to learn new forms of exercise, exchange experiences and connect with nature and the local community. A detailed schedule of talks, workshops and outdoor activities is expected to be announced soon; details on other upcoming activities are listed on the events in Crete page.

The “All Crete Blue-Green” project is co-financed by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Sport program. Organizers noted that the views expressed in the program are those of its authors alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), which they said bear no responsibility for them.
