Crete forecast: highs near 35°C Sunday, winds up to 7 Beaufort in Aegean, EMY says

Temperatures across Crete are expected to climb to around 35°C on Sunday, September 6, according to meteo.gr, the weather service of the National Observatory of Athens. Winds in the Aegean are forecast to reach up to 7 Beaufort during the day.

Meteo.gr said generally clear skies are expected nationwide on Sunday, with temperatures running well above seasonal norms. Sunshine is forecast for most of the day, with only scattered local cloud around midday and in the afternoon, mainly over mountainous areas. Visibility is expected to be locally reduced during the morning hours.

For Crete specifically, the forecast points to a daily temperature range of 19°C to 35°C. Other regions are also forecast to see high readings, including 20°C to 38°C in Thessaly and 23°C to 31°C in the Dodecanese, according to the service.

Wind conditions in the Aegean and Ionian

In the Central and North Aegean, winds are expected to blow from northerly directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, temporarily reaching 6 Beaufort in the Central Aegean. In the South Aegean, meteo.gr forecasts westerly to northwesterly winds of 4 to 6 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea, winds are expected from the northwest at 2 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening to 3 to 5 Beaufort in the North Ionian from midday onward.

The forecast follows a stretch of unusually warm conditions for early September, with meteo.gr previously forecasting heat and meltemi winds as the month began and reporting clear skies and highs of 32°C for Saturday. Anyone planning time at the coast during the warm spell can check current conditions at Crete’s beaches before heading out.
