Amariano village is located in the western part of Mount Dikte, just 8km away from Kastelli and 43km from Heraklion. According to a report by Kastrofilakas in 1583, the village had 285 inhabitants. It is believed that the village was established during the early centuries of Venetian rule, as a document from 1380 mentions “Mariano”. The Kornaros Family also owned large estates in Amariano.

The village’s main square features a beautiful 1898 stone fountain with a neoclassical influence. Visitors can relax under the shade of the old plane trees and admire the open-air exhibition of traditional stone tools used in olive production.
