Arsaniou Monastery

The Arsaniou Monastery can be found near Pagalochori village, just 11km east of Rethymnon, boasting stunning panoramic views of the Cretan Sea. This monastery features a cruciform basilica with a dome, dedicated to Saint George. Within the complex, visitors can explore a museum and attend events at the conference center.
It is believed that the monastery’s name likely originates from a monk named Arsenios. Alternatively, the name may be derived from Arsinoe, a woman who used her wealth to construct the monastery, or it could be named after the Cape of Arsinoon.
