Agios Myron, the capital of Malevizi province, is a charming town located on a hilltop just 19 km away from Heraklion. Agios Myron is named after its patron saint, who was born in the ancient city of Rafkos and participated in the Trojan War. He was ordained Bishop of Gortys in the 4th century but was martyred by Roman Emperor Decius during a period of persecution. According to local legend, St. Myron saved the locals from a dragon’s ravenous appetite by slaying it nearby, leaving behind a single rock at the site, now known as “The Dragon.”

The village is also known for producing high-quality raki, and visitors have the opportunity to attend and participate actively in its production each October and November.
