Lofos suits early adopters, couples and small families who collect hotels before the crowds find them, and travellers who want a private-pool suite within minutes of the airport for a first or last Cretan night done beautifully. Lofos runs 13 suites in 2 published tiers, the Private Pool Sea View Soul Suite and the larger Ultra Suite, every key carrying its own pool and terrace above the water.
With uniform new stock the choice is size and row: the Ultra tier buys space, the upper rows buy horizon. Families are welcomed, with baby chairs and babysitting on request, which is rarer than it should be at private-pool boutiques.
The Social Terrace and the hillside
The Social Terrace is the idea the hotel is named for: a Mediterranean restaurant and sunset bar above the sea, open to the neighbourhood, so the evening crowd mixes locals with the 13 suites’ guests.
Days run simply by design: the private pool, the included breakfast until 10:30, massage and spa services on request, and the coast below, with Tobrouk’s long sand a downhill quarter-hour and Karteros beach along it. Heraklion’s museums and Knossos sit 15 minutes west for the culture mornings.
How to get there
Lofos sits at Olympou above Vathianos Kampos, about 10 km from Heraklion airport (HER), roughly 10 minutes by road, with Heraklion city 12 km west; the final access road is unpaved-rough, so take it slowly.

Lofos is the review we write in pencil, openly. Thirteen suites, no Tripadvisor page, 6 Booking reviews: by our own method there is not yet a file to lean on, and we say so rather than inflate one. What earns the early page is the concept’s precision, because the social-house idea, a hotel whose restaurant belongs to the neighbourhood, is how the best small Greek hotels have always actually worked, here made the founding principle instead of a happy accident.
The location choice is quietly shrewd. Vathianos Kampos is the unglamorous coast the brochures skip, which is exactly why 13 private pools above it can price below the Elounda postcode while landing guests 10 minutes from their gate; as a first-night, last-night, or Heraklion-culture base, the geometry beats most of this programme.
The risks are the debutant’s. A rough road, an unproven kitchen at scale, seasons unweathered: none recorded as failures, all unrecorded as successes. The 9.5 says the first 6 parties left delighted; 60 more will tell us what the road, the rooms, and August do to the idea.
