I Resort Beach Hotel & Spa

I Resort Beach Hotel and Spa is a 227-room beachfront resort at Stalis, between Malia and Hersonissos, and it is the hotel in this batch where the two review platforms disagree most about the food. I Resort scores 9.3 on Booking.com across 69 reviews and 4.5 on Tripadvisor across 1,289, and the 69-review Booking sample is far too small to lean on. Read the Tripadvisor record instead, because it is where the pattern lives: strong location and staff, an infinity pool guests love, and all-inclusive catering that some weeks disappoints badly.
Crete Locals has no commercial relationship with this hotel. We earn a commission if you book through the availability links on this page, which costs you nothing and does not affect our verdict; both ratings were read from the platforms on the date in the table.

Location
I Resort Beach Hotel & Spa is located at 44 Agiou Ioannou Street, in Stalis (Stalida). The map below shows the exact spot; Google Maps and Waze give turn-by-turn directions.
Who I Resort suits, and who should skip it
I Resort suits guests who want a beachfront room with a sea view, a good infinity pool, and Malia and Hersonissos within a short taxi ride. It suits couples on bed and breakfast or half board who intend to eat out, since Stalis has tavernas along the front. Families locked into all-inclusive, and anyone with a restricted diet, should read the recent food reviews carefully before booking.
Advantages
- Direct beach access at Stalis, with the resort facing the water
- Infinity pool area that guests name as the strongest part of the site
- Sea-view rooms that reviewers say justify the upgrade
- Spa with treatments guests describe as professional and worth booking
- Front-desk flexibility, including late checkout at no charge for evening flights
- Staff named individually in reviews for a warm welcome and helpful service
Disadvantages
- All-inclusive food draws serious complaints in some weeks: cold, repetitive and limited
- Guests report ants in rooms that two rounds of treatment did not clear
- Sunbed availability is a recurring problem at the pool and on the beach
- Special diets are poorly served, including for a guest travelling with an autistic child
- Shower rooms are glass-walled onto the bedroom, which surprises some guests
- Only 69 Booking.com reviews, so the 9.3 there is not yet a reliable figure
The rooms: 227 keys, a lot of glass and a sea view worth paying for
I Resort holds 227 rooms and suites, from side sea view up to suites, and guests consistently say the sea-view categories are worth the extra. The design leans on glass: reviewers describe rooms with a lot of it, including a shower room whose wall is glass onto the bedroom, which is a detail couples should know about in advance rather than discover at bedtime.
Rooms themselves draw steady if unexcited praise: clean, adequate, with good showers. The complaints that recur are not about the rooms as built but about what happens in them, specifically ants, which several guests report persisting after spraying and powder were applied. If you are allocated a ground-floor room and see any, ask to be moved rather than treated.
The infinity pool, the spa and the board basis question
The infinity pool is the feature guests rate above everything else here, and they say so plainly. It is the part of the resort that photographs well and also works in practice, with attentive bar and waiting staff around it. The spa is the second strength: guests name their therapists and recommend booking a treatment during the stay, which is a better signal than any facility list.
The board basis is the decision that shapes your week here. The resort sells bed and breakfast, half board and all-inclusive, and the all-inclusive package is where the criticism concentrates: food arriving cold, little variety and repetitive options, with guests eating out most days and saying so in detail. Complaints made on site went unresolved in those reports. Stalis has tavernas along the beach road, so bed and breakfast plus eating out is a workable plan and often the better one.
How to get there
Fly into Heraklion airport (HER), about 27 km west along the national road, roughly a 30-minute drive. Stalis sits between Hersonissos and Malia, immediately off the main coast road.
Pre-book a transfer, since this stretch of coast road is busy in summer and the turning into Stalis is easy to miss; our guide to taxi and transfer services in Crete lists the operators and fares. Hire a car for the Lasithi plateau, Knossos or the eastern beaches, and check the terms in our car hire guide for Crete. You will not need it for dinner: the Stalis beach road is a walk, and Malia and Hersonissos are a few minutes by taxi.
The Crete Locals review
I Resort earns 7.9 from us, the lowest score in this batch, and the food is the reason. Guests on all-inclusive packages describe meals that arrived cold, a narrow selection that repeated through the week, and complaints that produced no change, to the point that they ate out most days at a resort they had already paid to feed them. That is not a one-off bad review; it recurs, and it is the clearest signal in a Tripadvisor record of 1,289 reviews.
Set against that, the location and the people come out well. The resort is on the beach at Stalis, the infinity pool is genuinely good, the spa gets specific praise with therapists named, and the front desk does the small generous things that guests remember, such as holding a room until 6pm at no charge for a 9pm flight. Reviewers name hostesses and cleaning staff. None of that reads as a badly run hotel.
Two practical warnings belong in any honest review of this property. Ants in rooms appear in multiple reports and survived two attempts at treatment in at least one case. And guests with special diets are not well served: a family travelling with an autistic daughter struggled to find food she would eat, which in an all-inclusive resort is a failure of range rather than of goodwill. Ask about both before booking if either applies to you.
Book I Resort on bed and breakfast or half board, take a sea-view room, and plan to eat along the Stalis front, where the tavernas are a short walk. Do not book the all-inclusive package expecting it to carry the week, and choose a different resort altogether if a restricted diet has to be catered for in-house.
