Matala Street Painting

The Matala Street Painting event is held annually on the last Sunday before the Matala Beach Festival. The Matala Street Painting will take place on Sunday, 29th June 2025. The event takes place throughout the streets of Matala village in Crete, Greece. The entire village becomes a canvas for artists, transforming the area into a vibrant, colorful outdoor art gallery.
The Matala Street Painting is organized by the committee of the Matala Beach Festival as part of the larger festival activities. They coordinate with local sponsors to provide materials and manage registrations. The registration starts 20-30 days before the event. Artists of all ages are welcome to participate.
The Matala Street Painting event aims to revive the spirit of the hippie era in Matala, encouraging participants to share messages of peace, friendship, and love through their art. It’s an opportunity for artists to leave their unique imprint on the streets once walked by hippies, connecting the present with the area’s countercultural past.
The street painting event serves as a prelude to the main Matala Beach Festival, building excitement and community engagement before the three-day music and cultural celebration. It reflects the festival’s overall themes of artistic expression, environmental awareness, and cultural heritage.
