About
Maridati is a beautiful pebbly beach in a remote green valley in the area of Palekastro. This is located 90km east of Agios Nikolaos, 21km east of Sitia and 5km north of the famous Kouremenos windsurfers’ beach. The beach is shaped within two rocky capes and is quite short in length. Here you can enjoy your swimming secluded, far from crowded places. There is a small wetland with fresh water in the area attracting avifauna and there are also several tamarisk trees 50m from the beach.
Maridatis used to attract Venetian ships in the past due to the torrent and the springs of the area.
You can drive to Maridati from Palekastro, by getting the road to Vai and turning on the right, when you meet a road sign to Maridati (about 5km after Palekastro). You then have to drive on a 1.5km dirt track, in good condition, but the beauty of this place will pay this back!
