About

Agios Isidoros is located at the northeasternmost tip of Crete, 32km east of Sitia and 99km east of Agios Nikolaos. It is situated at the northernmost point of Cape Sidero, in the territory of the Military Naval Station in Kyriamadi. The surrounding area is characterized by a unique landscape of wild beauty, which was shaped by the effect of salt and winds.

The secret beach of Agios Isidoros is located below the church and the lighthouse of Saint Isidore, which gives its name to Cape Sidero. The church is built next to the ruins of an older temple (14 century), that might have operated as a convent. Moreover, submarine ruins of a 4th-century temple have been identified. It is a small beach with sand and some rocks in places. It is an enclosed semicircular cove, protected by rocks that create a narrow strip of sea. It is ideal for isolation and for fishing as the area is rich in fish.

Access is not allowed from the coast, as this is a naval base; you can visit Saint Isidore only on its feast day (February 4). Hundreds of visitors arrive then, not only in order to follow their religious feelings but also in order to gather the delicious local wild artichoke. You can then combine your visit with a daily excursion to Vai palm grove and Toplou Monastery.
