KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi warns passengers of bus delays due to BOAK roadworks
KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi has told passengers that ongoing roadworks on the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK) may cause traffic delays and, as a result, disruptions to bus schedules.
The bus company said the works are expected to continue for an extended period, meaning travel times could vary depending on the area, the progress of construction, temporary traffic regulations, and general road conditions. Recent reports have described lengthy queues linked to roadworks and heavy traffic on BOAK near Karteros, as well as daily closures near the Xiropotamos bridge.
As a result, KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi is advising passengers to allow extra time when planning trips, particularly those involving:
- a connecting flight or other onward transport,
- a transfer to another bus route,
- a ferry connection,
- an important appointment or scheduled commitment, or
- any journey where arriving on time is critical.
For these cases, the company recommends choosing an earlier departure to leave sufficient margin and reduce the risk of problems caused by unforeseen delays.
KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi said it is making every effort to run its routes smoothly and safely, but noted that travel times remain affected by traffic conditions and the temporary regulations applied because of the works. The company asked passengers to show understanding and patience for the duration of the project and encouraged them to check available schedules in advance when planning trips.
