Greece’s temperatures rise again before autumn shift arrives next week, forecaster says
Greece’s weather is set for a series of shifts over the coming days, with temperatures temporarily dropping before climbing again from Friday to levels above seasonal norms, according to forecasts reported by neakriti.gr. A more substantial change is expected at the start of next week, bringing lower temperatures, more rainfall and locally stronger weather phenomena.
The current dip in temperature is expected to last until Wednesday. From Thursday, conditions will begin to change and the mercury will start climbing again. The most significant shift, however, is placed at the start of next week, when available forecast data suggest an organized weather system may affect the country, bringing more rain and a renewed drop in temperature.
According to meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis, the recent cooler conditions are linked to colder air masses moving down from the northern Balkans. At the same time, a strong northerly airflow continues to affect the Aegean, where winds are reaching up to 7 Beaufort in places.
From Thursday, the northerly winds are expected to gradually weaken as warmer air begins approaching the country. This will lead to a renewed rise in temperature, which will become more noticeable from Friday. As a result, both Friday and the weekend are expected to bring temperatures higher than usual for the season, though without extreme heat.
The change from Thursday
On Wednesday, atmospheric instability is expected to persist in parts of mainland Greece, with localized showers and storms around midday and in the afternoon, while the meltemi will continue to be a defining feature of conditions in the Aegean.
A different atmospheric circulation pattern will begin forming from Thursday. Per Marousakis’ forecast, a disturbance is expected to organize near Italy before moving eastward. At the same time, the transport of warmer air masses toward Greece will set the stage for the temperature rise, which will become more apparent from Friday.
Based on current data, no intense bad weather is expected over the weekend. However, early signs of the coming change may appear, with rain or local storms possible mainly in the Ionian Sea and in western and northern mainland areas.
A more organized autumn shift next week
Greater interest surrounds the forecast for early next week. A low-pressure system expected to form further west is projected to move toward Greece, creating conditions for a more organized change in the weather.
The disturbance’s passage over sea areas is expected to raise atmospheric humidity, increasing the likelihood of rainfall across a larger part of the country. If current forecast data are confirmed, next week will bring clearer autumn characteristics, with lower temperatures and more rain, which could be more intense in some areas.
Up to and including the weekend, however, there are no indications of extreme weather phenomena. The most substantial change remains placed at the start of the new week, according to the forecast.
