Apesokari cultural association plans guided tour of archaeological site, Mesara Museum for September 6
The Cultural Association of Apesokari “Alexandros Daskalakis” will organize a guided tour on Sunday, September 6, 2026, to the archaeological site of Apesokari and the Museum of Mesara, the association’s board of directors announced.
The tour will be conducted by archaeologist Diamantis Panagiotopoulos, a professor at the University of Heidelberg, according to the announcement.
Apesokari and the Museum of Mesara are located in the wider Mesara plain of southern Crete, an area that also includes the Minoan palace of Phaistos. Visitor numbers at Crete’s archaeological sites have shifted in recent months, with Phaistos posting gains even as Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum saw fewer visitors, according to ELSTAT data reported earlier this year.
The association has not published further logistical details, such as a meeting time or registration requirements, beyond confirming the date and the two stops on the itinerary. Guided outings of this kind are among the cultural experiences in Crete offered by local groups, and further destinations of this type can be found among the island’s places in Crete.
