CretaOne lists ten Crete destinations for a weekend trip

Local outlet CretaOne has published a list of ten destinations across Crete that it says are suited for a weekend trip, ranging from the coast of Chania in the west to Sitia in the east of the island.

According to the outlet, a single free weekend is enough to visit beaches, mountain villages and seaside settlements without needing a longer holiday.

Paleochora

On the southern coast of Chania, Paleochora combines beaches, dining options and evening activity. CretaOne describes it as a destination where visitors can leave the car behind and spend most of the weekend on foot.

Loutro

Loutro, in the Sfakia area, has no car access and is described by CretaOne as having white houses and turquoise waters, making it a choice for visitors seeking to disconnect from daily routine.

Agia Galini

Agia Galini, in southern Rethymno, has a beach, a small harbor and several dining and accommodation options. CretaOne notes it can also serve as a base for short trips to the surrounding area.

Plakias

Plakias offers a large beach and easy access to several other beaches in southern Crete, according to the outlet, which says it can fill an entire two-day visit.

Matala

CretaOne cites Matala’s caves, its history linked to the hippie movement, and its sunset as reasons it remains one of the island’s more recognizable destinations.

Mochlos

Mochlos, a small seaside settlement in Lasithi, is presented as an option for a quieter weekend, with a waterfront and tavernas by the sea.

Elounda

Elounda combines beaches, accommodation options and access to Spinalonga, and can be combined with a visit to Agios Nikolaos, according to the outlet.

Falasarna

Falasarna, in western Crete, is described as having a large sandy beach and is suggested for visitors who want their weekend centered on the sea.

Chora Sfakion

Chora Sfakion can serve as a base for exploring the southern coastline of Chania and for boat trips to smaller settlements and beaches, CretaOne notes.

Sitia

Sitia is presented as an alternative to more crowded destinations, offering a seaside walk, dining options and opportunities for day trips in eastern Crete.

CretaOne concludes that Crete’s advantage is offering a range of experiences within the island, whether visitors prefer two days by the sea or a weekend focused on walking, dining and exploring.
