Crete forecast: clear skies and highs of 32°C expected Saturday, EMY says

Greece’s National Weather Service (EMY) forecasts generally clear skies across Crete on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with temperatures reaching up to 32°C, according to the meteorological service of the National Observatory of Athens, meteo.gr.

Nationwide, sunshine is expected to dominate on Saturday, with the mercury climbing to as high as 36°C in some parts of mainland Greece. According to meteo.gr, skies will be mostly clear, with a few local clouds forming over mountainous areas around midday and in the afternoon. The forecast also points to relatively increased dust concentrations in the atmosphere over the Aegean Sea and Crete.

On Crete specifically, temperatures are forecast to range from 19°C to 32°C. This comes days after a similar forecast for the start of September pointed to persistent heat and strong seasonal winds across the island.

Winds over the Aegean will strengthen at times, blowing from the north at 4 to 6 Beaufort, with gusts reaching 7 Beaufort temporarily in the central and southern Aegean, EMY said. In the Ionian Sea, winds will initially blow from the east at 2 to 4 Beaufort before shifting northwest around midday, without a significant change in intensity.

Elsewhere in the country, Attica is expected to see sunshine throughout the day, with temperatures in central Athens ranging from 25°C to 34°C and winds from the north reaching 3 to 5 Beaufort during the day. Thessaloniki will also see sunny conditions, with light and variable winds not exceeding 3 Beaufort, and temperatures in the city center ranging from 24°C to 33°C.

The forecast follows a stretch of warm early-autumn conditions across the region, consistent with a recent report noting that the sea around Crete is often warmer in September than in June, according to NOAA data.
