Region of Crete to present second Autumn Choral Meeting in Rethymno on September 30
The Region of Crete will present the “2nd Autumn Choral Meeting” on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 20:30, at the Erofili Theatre inside the Fortezza in Rethymno, with free admission. The concert is part of the “Women” parallel action of Crete Festival 2026.
Organizers describe the event as a musical evening dedicated to polyphony, collaboration and the creative presence of women in choral music, presented under the title “The Maestras of Rethymno.”
Three choirs, three women conductors
The concert brings together three choirs, each led by a woman conductor. Chorus Rettimo Cantus, part of the Association for the Promotion of Fine Arts of Rethymno – Branch of the Greek Conservatory, performs under conductor Eleni Perpiraki. The Municipal Choir of Rethymno performs under conductor Isidora Chalkiadaki, and the Mixed Choir of the University of Crete (UOC Chorus) performs under conductor Mariela Vitorou.
According to the Region of Crete, the program will include a mix of Greek and international repertoire, spanning popular, “entechno” and traditional songs alongside works from different eras and musical styles, performed in the historic setting of the Erofili Theatre within the Fortezza.
The concert forms part of the wider “Women – Cultural Heritage – Creation” parallel action, which the Region says is continuing across Crete with a focus on equality, freedom of expression and equal participation. Other events in the same program have included a pair of culture evenings honoring women organized by the Kataligariou cultural association in Palaiochora.
