Malevizi municipality urges residents to limit travel in four coastal areas as storms approach

The Municipality of Malevizi has raised its readiness level ahead of a forecast deterioration in weather conditions, following an extraordinary bulletin from the National Meteorological Service (EMY) warning of severe phenomena expected to hit Crete.

The municipality issued a strong recommendation to residents and visitors in Agia Pelagia, Lygaria, Mades and Palaiokastro to limit all unnecessary travel, particularly during the hours when the most intense weather is expected. The warning follows EMY’s orange warning for Crete as storms and heavy rain move across the region.

Residents, business owners and visitors were also asked to take early self-protection measures, including removing objects that could be swept away by water or otherwise pose a hazard during the storm.

The municipality placed particular emphasis on vehicle parking, advising drivers to move their cars away from locations at increased risk during heavy rainfall or flooding, and to avoid driving on roads where water is accumulating or flowing strongly.

Civil Protection monitoring the situation

According to the municipality, Malevizi’s Civil Protection services remain on heightened alert and are monitoring how the weather phenomena develop. The announcement comes as forecasters warn of a new storm system bringing heavy rain to Crete in the coming days.
