Magnitude 4.1 earthquake strikes Rethymno, Crete, before dawn

A magnitude-4.1 earthquake struck the region of Rethymno in Crete at 03:48 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, which reported the event on behalf of the four agencies making up the Hellenic Unified Seismological Network.
The quake’s epicenter was located seven kilometers east of Vistagi, in the Rethymno regional unit, with a focal depth of approximately 15 kilometers, the institute said.
No injuries or damage had been reported following the tremor.
Background
Crete sits in a seismically active zone and periodically records tremors of varying magnitude. Earlier this year the island also registered a magnitude-3.8 earthquake north of Lasithi.
