Heraklion museum opens new cartography exhibition

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum opened a new temporary exhibition on the history of cartography on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, according to Anatoli.

The exhibition highlights the multiple dimensions of cartography through time, the museum said in announcing the inauguration.

At the opening, the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, said that “Crete is not just an enclosed land, but an inexhaustible source of open horizons.”

The cartography exhibition follows other recent archaeological developments on the island. Five ancient Cretan artifacts recently returned from the United States after being held there for six decades.

Separately, the archaeological site of Lato added a self-guided digital audio tour for visitors this year.
