Ferry routes to Crete set to resume gradually from Saturday afternoon

Ferry departures from Piraeus to Crete are expected to resume gradually from the afternoon of Saturday, October 3, as the gale-force winds that grounded ferries from Crete begin to ease.
From the port of Piraeus, departures of ships that had remained docked due to strong winds are expected to start gradually after 16:00, while evening sailings to Crete are scheduled to run as normal.
Passengers planning to travel are advised to contact local port authorities, ferry companies and travel agencies before departure, as schedules may still be modified depending on how weather conditions develop.
Recent disruption to ferry schedules
The disruption follows days of adverse weather across Attica and the wider region. The Heraklion Port Authority had earlier raised its alert level as forecasters warned of gale-force winds reaching up to 8 Beaufort, and separate reports noted that the storms had already prompted changes to Crete ferry schedules, including the skipping of some stops on other routes.
