Ferries suspended from Souda port as bad weather hits Crete

Ferry departures to and from Souda port in Chania have been suspended due to bad weather conditions, according to an announcement from ANEK Lines on October 14.
The company said the Kissamos ferry, scheduled to depart Chania at 21:30 and arrive in Piraeus at 06:00, will not sail as planned. The vessel will instead depart from Chania at 09:30 on Thursday morning, arriving in Piraeus at 18:00.
A similar cancellation applies to the opposite route. ANEK Lines said the Elyros ferry’s scheduled departure from Piraeus at 22:00, with arrival in Chania at 06:15, will also not take place. The ship will depart Piraeus at 09:30 on Thursday morning and arrive in Chania at 18:00.
Passengers who had planned to travel on the cancelled sailings should contact their local ticket agencies regarding their bookings, ANEK Lines said.
The disruption comes as the Heraklion port authority has warned of winds reaching up to 8 Beaufort across the region. Weather forecasters have said Crete faces strong winds and rain through Thursday, prompting several sailing restrictions around the island this week.
