Crete stays hot with highs of 32°C on Sunday, forecaster says

Crete will remain among the hottest regions of Greece on Sunday, September 20, with temperatures reaching up to 32°C in places, according to a forecast from the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr. Northerly winds will continue to be felt in the South and Southeastern Aegean.

The island’s weather is expected to stay closer to summer than autumn conditions, following highs of 32.3°C recorded on Saturday at Elafonisi in Chania and 32°C at Petrokefali in Heraklion. According to the forecast, temperatures on Sunday will range widely, from around 13°C during the coolest hours to as much as 32°C during the day.

Sunshine with brief clouds

Conditions across Crete are expected to be generally good, in line with the sunshine forecast for most of the country. Temporary cloud cover may develop at times, though no significant change in the weather pattern is expected on the island.

Winds in the South Aegean will blow from northerly to northwesterly directions at 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally reaching 5 Beaufort during the morning hours, with stronger winds expected locally in the Southeastern Aegean.

Rain expected elsewhere in Greece

Elsewhere in the country, Sunday is expected to bring plenty of sunshine with passing clouds. Local rain is forecast mainly during midday and afternoon hours in the mountainous areas of Epirus, Macedonia, Thessaly, Central Greece and the Peloponnese, with the Ionian Islands possibly affected briefly as well.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly, reaching up to 32°C in several mainland areas. In Attica, forecasters expect sunshine with passing clouds and temperatures between 17°C and 31°C, while Thessaloniki is expected to see mostly clear skies with highs also reaching 32°C.
