Crete to see mild Wednesday with highs of 24°C as rain approaches from the west

Crete is expected to have mild, largely dry weather on Wednesday, October 21, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees Celsius, even as a gradual change in conditions begins elsewhere in Greece. Strengthening southerly winds, higher humidity and the first rains in western areas of the country mark the start of a shift that is expected to become more pronounced on Thursday.
Crete: mild conditions with highs near 24 degrees
In Crete, Wednesday is forecast to pass without significant weather events, with sunny spells and localized cloud cover. Temperatures are expected to remain relatively high for the season, with highs reaching 24 degrees Celsius and lows around 13 degrees.
Winds over the Aegean will generally blow from the south, except in southeastern areas where northwesterly winds will prevail, with intensity ranging from 3 to 5 Beaufort. Despite the broader change beginning to affect other parts of the country, Crete does not appear to be at the center of rainfall during this first stage of the shift. Temperatures on the island are expected to stay mild over the coming days, before following the general trend of gradual decline forecast for the rest of the country toward the end of the week.
Change begins Wednesday: where the first rain will fall
The shift in weather will begin in western Greece, where cloud cover will gradually increase and localized rain and isolated storms are expected from the afternoon. The first phenomena will mainly affect the Ionian islands, Epirus, Western Macedonia and Western Central Greece.
During the night, rainfall is expected to extend toward Central Central Greece, the western and northern Peloponnese, and Thessaly. At the same time, increased humidity is expected to favor the formation of fog, mainly during nighttime and early morning hours, locally reducing visibility. A notable feature of Wednesday will be the strengthening of southerly winds, which in the Ionian Sea will reach 6 and locally 7 Beaufort.
Thursday: rain spreads further, strong south winds
On Thursday, October 22, the weather system affecting the country is expected to move further east, bringing rain to more regions. According to available forecast data, the phenomena will affect the Ionian Sea and much of mainland Greece, without particularly high intensity expected in most areas.
Southerly winds will strengthen further, locally reaching 7 Beaufort in both the Ionian and Aegean seas. Temperatures will rise slightly, with highs in some areas reaching 25 to 26 degrees Celsius. The combination of increased humidity and strengthened south winds will create a characteristically autumnal atmosphere despite the relatively high temperatures.
Temperatures across the country on Wednesday
In Western Macedonia, temperatures will range from 7 to 22 degrees Celsius, while the rest of Macedonia and Thrace will see 9 to 24 degrees. Epirus is expected to see 9 to 24 degrees and Thessaly 10 to 24 degrees. Central Greece will range from 10 to 25 degrees, and the Peloponnese from 8 to 25 degrees.
In the Ionian islands, temperatures will range from 16 to 24 degrees, in the islands of the northern and northeastern Aegean from 12 to 24 degrees, and in Crete and the rest of the Aegean islands from 13 to 24 degrees. In the Dodecanese, temperatures will locally reach 26 degrees Celsius.
Attica and Thessaloniki
In Attica, Wednesday will begin with sunshine and passing cloud, which will increase again from the afternoon. There is a chance of light rain in the evening. Winds will blow from the south at 2 to 4 Beaufort, with temperatures ranging from 11 to 23 degrees Celsius.
In Thessaloniki, cloudy conditions are expected, with a chance of localized rain overnight. Visibility will be locally reduced during nighttime and morning hours. Winds will blow from the southeast at 2 to 4 Beaufort, with temperatures in the city center ranging from 11 to 22 degrees.
Weekend outlook
Friday, October 23, is expected to maintain the relatively mild temperature profile of previous days, with highs locally reaching 25 to 26 degrees Celsius. Toward the weekend, however, atmospheric circulation appears set to change again, with rain and isolated storms forecast mainly in the northern parts of the country, while other regions are expected to see less intense phenomena.
On Saturday, October 24, weather is generally forecast to be good in most areas. Winds will gradually shift to westerly, locally reaching 6 Beaufort, while temperatures begin to decline. For Sunday, October 25, forecast data indicate the possibility of a new system approaching from the west, which could bring further rain and additional changes in weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to gradually return to more seasonal levels, ending the period of temporary warming that will precede it.
For Crete, the main feature of the coming days remains mild weather, with no significant deterioration currently indicated. However, the development of the new system that may approach the country on Sunday will determine whether the change in weather affects the island more directly.
