Crete forecast: clear skies and northerly winds Wednesday, highs of 33°C

Crete will see generally clear skies on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with winds from the north reaching 4 to 6 Beaufort and temperatures ranging from 22°C to 33°C locally, according to the National Weather Service (EMY). In Heraklion, the temperature stood at 27°C on Wednesday morning.

The forecast follows a similar pattern to the previous day, when EMY reported sunshine and northerly winds across Crete on Tuesday, with highs reaching 35°C. Nationwide, EMY said Wednesday would be mostly sunny, though clouds were expected to develop over western and northern mainland Greece from midday, bringing local rain to mountainous areas.

Instability continues in mainland mountains

EMY said the mountains of Epirus, Macedonia and Western Sterea were likely to see isolated thunderstorms, with similar conditions possible in the mountains of Thessaly and the Peloponnese. In Central Macedonia and Thessaly, the unsettled weather was expected to persist into the night. The service also noted that conditions favored the arrival of African dust over western Greece.

Across the mainland, temperatures were forecast to reach 34–36°C, and locally 37°C, while the Ionian islands, the Eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese were expected to see highs of 34–36°C. On the remaining islands, including Crete, maximum temperatures were forecast between 30°C and 34°C, with EMY specifying a range of 22°C to 31°C for Crete, locally reaching 32–33°C.

The forecast comes as EMY’s broader outlook for the period described the start of September bringing continued heat and meltemi winds to Crete.
