Coast Guard rescues about 40 migrants from boat south of Crete

A boat carrying approximately 40 foreign migrants was located on Monday evening in waters 52 nautical miles south of Agia Galini, following an operation coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.
The boat was first spotted by an unmanned aerial vehicle operated by Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, according to the report. A Hellenic Coast Guard vessel subsequently carried out the operation to pick up those on board.
The approximately 40 migrants were due to be transferred to the port of Agia Galini. North winds of 5 Beaufort were blowing in the area at the time.
The incident followed a separate Coast Guard rescue operation reported south of Kali Limenes, where a boat carrying 71 migrants was located the previous evening, according to Cretalive.
