Chania’s traditional Strata closes Monday with award ceremony at Venetian Harbour

The Municipality of Chania will hold the closing ceremony of this year’s Traditional Strata on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 19:30, at the Agios Nikolaos Bastion (Fortezza) in the Venetian Harbour of Chania.

The ceremony will include an award presentation for the heads of the traditional associations that took part in the 2026 Traditional Strata, with the awards to be presented by the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis.

This year’s closing coincides with the celebration of World Tourism Day 2026, giving the event at the Venetian Harbour an added musical and cultural dimension. A similar World Tourism Day tribute event is being held in Elounda, near Agios Nikolaos.

Musical program

The Cretan Music Association of Chania, “O Charchalis,” will present the musical program “Sounds of Crete,” described as a musical journey through the sounds, traditional instruments and living cultural heritage of Crete.

All the traditional associations that participated in the Municipality of Chania’s 2026 Traditional Strata will take part in the closing event, marking the end of a year of activities centered on Cretan tradition and culture.
