Autumn weather brings showers and falling temperatures to Crete

Autumn conditions took hold across parts of northern Crete from the early hours of Wednesday, with heavy showers occurring intermittently and temperatures dropping, according to meteorologists.

The rain has so far been recorded mainly in northern parts of the island and sporadically inland. Authorities have not reported any problems as a result of the weather up to this point.

Meteorologists said conditions are expected to improve gradually from the afternoon onward. The Samaria Gorge remained closed on Wednesday because of the heavy rain forecast for the day.

Sunshine expected to return Thursday

Forecasters said the weather is expected to improve significantly on Thursday, with sunshine and temperatures rising to levels considered normal for the season. According to a separate forecast covering Thursday’s outlook, rain over Crete is expected to ease as temperatures edge up.

A further change in the weather is anticipated from Friday, meteorologists said, though details of that shift were not specified. Earlier forecasts had pointed to a broader pattern of rain easing before a colder shift arrives later in the week.
