Agios Nikolaos to hold World Tourism Day tribute event in Elounda

The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos will hold an event in Elounda on Friday, September 25, 2026, dedicated to tourism, local tradition and the people who contributed to the area’s development, the municipality said. The event marks World Tourism Day.

According to the municipality, residents and visitors are invited to share in “authentic Cretan hospitality” and jointly honor local traditions. The experiences planned for the evening are intended to bring together Elounda’s tourism history with Cretan tradition and contemporary local life.

The president of the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT), Angela Varela, is expected to attend the celebrations, the municipality said.

Program

The municipality released the following schedule for the day:

At 17:00, a tribute will be held for Elounda’s first local hoteliers, with living local hoteliers honored at the Elounda Community Building.

At 19:00, a walking serenade, or “kantada,” will move through the shops of Schisma Elounda.

At 20:30, a feast with traditional treats will take place in the central square.

The evening is set to close with dancing, singing and Cretan food and drink. The event is part of a wider calendar of events in Crete tied to the tourism season, following a similar week of “Days of Tourism” activities held in Chersonisos earlier this month.
