Drymiskos lies 7.4 km away, a sequence of coves spanning 3 km known collectively as Drymiskiani Gialia. Rocks and reefs segment them, which suits snorkelling, and the area stays largely undiscovered because it is harder to reach than the rest of the south Rethymno coast. Its westernmost section, Amoudi, is where the paved road from Preveli ends.
Preveli follows at 7.6 km, also known as Lake Preveli, Phoenix or Finikas. A colony of Theophrastus date palms lines the banks of the Megalos Potamos, one of the few natural palm forests in Europe, and the river runs all year and widens into a long lagoon.

Pahia Ammos at Kerames sits 8 km away, one of the main beaches of Keramiani Gialia south-east of Agia Fotini, reached on a well-maintained dirt track rather than asphalt.
