Rethymno’s Municipal Philharmonic performs free concert in Episkopi on August 28

The Municipality of Rethymno’s Culture Department, with support from the Episkopi Cultural Association, will host a summer concert by the Municipal Philharmonic of Rethymno on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 21:00, at the Episkopi Cultural Association venue.
The event was originally scheduled for July 31 but was postponed as a mark of respect and mourning for firefighters who died during the destructive wildfire in the Municipality of Agios Vasileios, according to the municipality. Rethymno officials have separately reported extensive property damage from the fire, with inspections finding 25 buildings severely damaged.
Program and performers
The concert will be conducted by chief conductor Stelios Apostolakis and features two ensembles of the Philharmonic: the Clarinet Ensemble of the Municipal Philharmonic of Rethymno and the Art Music Ensemble of the Municipal Philharmonic of Rethymno, with guest participation by Nikos Markantonis. The municipality said the program combines different musical genres.
Admission is free. The concert is one of several cultural events taking place across Crete this month, alongside performances such as the free concerts and shows in Platanias and the upcoming 12th Mikis Theodorakis Festival in Chania. Further listings can be found on the Events in Crete page.
