Vulture rescued after landing on parked plane's wing at Heraklion airport

A large vulture was rescued on Sunday night after it was found resting on the wing of a parked aircraft at Heraklion’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport.

Airport staff spotted the wild bird on the aircraft wing on the tarmac on the night of Sunday, August 16, and immediately alerted personnel from the airport’s 2nd Fire Station, who carried out the rescue.

Photographs shared on social media by firefighter Antonis Petrakis show the vulture being handled by rescuers. According to the report, the necessary procedures were then started to return the bird to the wild.
