Ethereal White Resort

Ethereal White Resort is a 50-room adults-only hotel in the centre of Heraklion, 200 m from the Morosini Fountain, with a rooftop pool and a spa built around a 2026 longevity programme. It opened in August 2023 and posts 4.5 out of 5 across 50 Tripadvisor reviews with 9.3 out of 10 on Booking.com across 1,112, where staff score 9.8. Our verdict lands at 8.4 out of 10: one of the strongest city stays on the island, provided you understand that the word resort in the name is doing some work. Location
Ethereal White Resort is located at Apokoronou, in Heraklion Town. The map below shows the exact spot; Google Maps and Waze give turn-by-turn directions.
Who Ethereal White suits, and who should skip it
Ethereal White suits couples aged 16 and over who want to walk to dinner, the Archaeological Museum and the Venetian harbour, then swim on a roof rather than at a beach. Skip it if you came to Crete for sand, if you are arriving by car without a plan for parking, or if you need a dark, silent room. The lists below come from recurring themes across its 50 Tripadvisor reviews and 1,112 Booking.com reviews.
Advantages
- Service is the standout: 9.8 on Booking.com and 4.9 on Tripadvisor, named in a quarter of reviews
- Location scores 4.9 with a perfect 100 out of 100 walk score, 400 m from the Venetian harbour
- Cleanliness 9.7 and comfort 9.7, described as spotless again and again
- Rooftop pool and Sky Bar from April to October, plus a heated indoor spa pool year round in season
- Swim-up rooms open directly onto the rooftop pool, and two fourth-floor suites have heated plunge pools
- Greek Breakfast and Cretan Taste certified, with eggs cooked to order
Disadvantages
- Urban surroundings and blocked views draw 20 per cent of complaints, including rooms facing run-down buildings and overlooked plunge-pool terraces
- Parking is first come, first served on narrow streets, an issue in 12 per cent of reviews, with one guest scratching a hire car
- In-room LED lights from panels, detectors and emergency fittings keep some guests awake, which is why sleep quality sits at 4.5 against service at 4.9
- The included spa pass runs 120 minutes and covers the pool and jacuzzi only, not the sauna or steam room
- No beach: the nearest sand at Amoudara is 2.1 km away, about a 9 minute drive
- Hot breakfast dishes are reported arriving lukewarm
The rooms: 50 keys from 20 sqm upwards
Ethereal White runs 50 rooms and suites across 7 published categories, from 20 sqm Essential rooms to Luxury Suites of 30 sqm with heated plunge pools on the fourth floor, with Deluxe Swim Up rooms opening straight onto the rooftop pool.
Choose by what you want to look at. The city is workaday around the hotel, so ask for a higher floor and an aspect away from the neighbouring buildings, the single most common disappointment in the file. Light sleepers should ask housekeeping to tape or cover the in-room LEDs, which one detailed review catalogued in full. The hotel is clear that the plunge pools are heated hot tubs rather than swimming pools, which is worth knowing before you pay for one.
The rooftop, the spa and the 2026 longevity programme
The roof is the hotel’s answer to having no beach: a pool and the Ethereal Sky Bar above the old town, open April to October, with a pool bar and the lobby bar below.
Downstairs, the Ethereal Spa runs a heated indoor pool from 10:00 to 20:00 with jacuzzi, hammam, sauna and steam, massage and beauty rooms, and a gym open from 07:00 to 23:00. For 2026 the treatment menu relaunched as the AEGEO Signature Journeys Collection, a Hippocratic wellness and longevity concept with six signature journeys, shorter 20 to 25 minute rituals and a seven-day protocol to follow at home. Read the inclusions carefully: your rate covers 120 minutes of indoor pool and jacuzzi, the sauna and steam are not in that pass, and the full spa experience is an add-on. The restaurant, which the hotel never names on its own site, handles breakfast and dinner.
How to get there
Ethereal White sits at Apokoronou 2 and 1770 in central Heraklion, about 5.5 km from Heraklion airport (HER), which is 8 minutes on a clear road and up to 15 in city traffic. Knossos is 5 km south.
Three transport options cover the trip, and each fits a different stay. A taxi or pre-booked transfer is the sensible choice here, because the hotel sits inside a dense street grid; our guide to taxi and airport transfer services in Crete lists the operators and typical prices. A hire car pays off only if you are touring, and our car rental in Crete page compares local rates; park it and walk while you are in the city. The KTEL bus station and the port are both a short walk, which makes this a practical base for day trips without a car.
The Crete Locals review
Ethereal White earns an 8.4 for doing the hard thing well: running a design hotel with resort manners inside a working Greek city. Fifty rooms, adults from 16, a rooftop pool over the old town and a spa with a serious 2026 programme, all 400 m from the Venetian harbour and 200 m from the Morosini Fountain. The 9.3 across 1,112 Booking reviews is a large enough sample to trust, and the 9.8 for staff is the number the owners should frame.
Our own records had this hotel in Agia Pelagia, on the coast west of the city. That was wrong, and the correction matters for anyone choosing it: this is a city hotel, 2.1 km from the nearest beach at Amoudara. Guests who arrive expecting a coastal resort are the ones writing about buildings outside the window, and the name invites exactly that mistake.
The flaws are ordinary city-hotel flaws, honestly priced at around 250 euros a night in July. Parking is a scramble, some aspects are grim, the bedside constellation of LEDs defeats light sleepers, and the spa pass is narrower than it first sounds. None of that undermines a 4.9 for location and service; it just means you should book a high floor, arrange parking in advance, and read what the spa rate includes.
Book Ethereal White as an island base rather than a beach holiday: three or four nights, a swim-up room or a higher-floor suite, the museum and Knossos on foot and by taxi, and dinner in the old town five minutes away. April, May, September and October are its season, when the roof is open and the city is walkable in the middle of the day.
