Our family of four is planning a 7-night trip to Crete this August. We’ll have a rental car and are open to driving around.
We’re flying into Heraklion and out of Chania. After a few days in Heraklion, we’ll head to Elounda and Agios Nikolaos for 3 nights. Is this the right amount of time to spend there?
Should we head straight to Chania, or would it be better to spend a night or two in Bali or Rethymno along the way?
We’re also looking for recommendations on kid-friendly beaches. We’re not interested in the big tourist spots or Instagram-worthy locations; we just want a traditional family vacation and to experience local life.
We understand August is very busy, but it’s the only time we can visit due to school holidays.
