Power fault on Gavdos disrupts island’s water supply, municipality urges conservation

A fault in the electricity network on the Greek island of Gavdos has disrupted the local water supply, prompting the municipality to ask residents and visitors to limit water use to essential needs.
The fault appeared on Wednesday in the Karave, Sarakiniko and Ai Giannis area, affecting the operation of the water supply network from Sarakiniko, according to the Municipality of Gavdos.
A crew from the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) is expected to reach the island by the scheduled ferry on the evening of August 20 to carry out repairs, according to estimates cited by the municipality.
Municipality’s announcement
In its announcement, the Municipality of Gavdos said: “Due to a fault in the DEDDIE electricity network in the Karave-Sarakiniko-Ai Giannis area, the operation of the water supply network from Sarakiniko has also been affected.”
The municipality added: “Residents and visitors to the island are asked to immediately limit their water consumption to absolutely necessary needs until the fault is repaired.”
Until the problem is resolved, the municipality is calling on everyone on Gavdos to use water only for essential purposes in order to limit the impact on the water supply network’s operation.
