Heraklion driver fined €30 after entering full Marina parking lot, Cretalive reports

A driver in Heraklion has complained to Cretalive after being fined €30 by the Port Authority inside the Marina parking lot on the city’s seafront, saying she had entered the lot only to find no free spaces available.

According to the reader’s account, the entry barrier opened as normal, on condition of a receipt from a café, but there was no free space once she drove inside. She said that, due to being boxed in and the tight space, the rear wheels of her car ended up on the pavement. She was then issued a fine.

“Instead of the authorities ensuring the proper operation of the space, the Port Authority left me astonished by issuing me a €30 fine inside the parking lot,” the driver told Cretalive.

She questioned the fairness of the penalty, asking: “Why does the barrier open when the parking lot is full? Is it fair for the driver to be punished for poor management of the space? Citizens are not a source of revenue for infrastructure failures!”

Cretalive did not report a response from the Port Authority or the Municipality of Heraklion regarding the incident or the parking lot’s barrier system. The complaint comes amid broader scrutiny of enforcement and fines by authorities across Crete, including warnings over heavy fines for other violations reported elsewhere on the island this summer.
