Hilton, Marriott, Rosewood and 1 Hotels plan new luxury hotels in Crete

Several international hotel groups are developing new luxury properties in Crete over the coming years, according to official announcements from the companies, as part of a wider expansion of global hospitality brands across Greece that extends at least until 2029.

In Heraklion, Hilton has announced the ÉRA Hotel Heraklion, part of its Tapestry Collection, which will have 55 rooms in the city’s historic and commercial centre, on Daskalogiannis Square. The hotel will include a rooftop pool, a restaurant with panoramic views of the city, and a gym. According to Hilton’s official website, bookings are already open for stays from October 30, 2026.

Marriott International has announced The Tenant, Heraklion Crete, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, developed in partnership with Vasia Hotels & Resorts. The boutique city hotel is planned near the port of Heraklion. Marriott had originally included the project in its 2026 development plan for Greece, with an initial opening timeline for July, but no updated opening date has been confirmed since that timeline passed.

Marriott is also developing Le Méridien Sissi Crete, a 229-room property expected to open in 2027, which will mark the Le Méridien brand’s entry into the Greek market. On the island’s north coast, the company has planned the 314-room Milatos Marriott Resort Crete, expected to open in 2028 under the flagship Marriott Hotels brand.

Rosewood’s entry into Greece

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is set to enter the Greek market through the repositioning of the Blue Palace in Elounda. The Rosewood Blue Palace, a member of PHAEA Resorts, will have 154 rooms and suites after redesign, 85 of them with a private pool. The property’s reopening under the Rosewood flag is planned for 2027.

1 Hotels’ first European resort

1 Hotels is planning its first resort hotel in Europe in Elounda, through the 1 Hotel & Homes Elounda Hills. The five-star hotel will form the centrepiece of the wider Elounda Hills development in Mirabello Bay, a mixed-use tourism project by Mirum Hellas that will combine hotel accommodation with branded residences, a marina, a seafront settlement with commercial and leisure facilities, a wellness centre, dining and recreation areas, and beachfront infrastructure. According to the current timeline for the development, Elounda Hills is scheduled to open in 2028.

Wider national context

The Crete projects form part of a broader pipeline of luxury hotel investments announced by international groups across Greece, including Hilton, Marriott, Accor, IHG, Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental, with new properties planned in destinations such as Corfu, Rhodes, Zakynthos, Paros, Athens, Thessaloniki and Porto Heli between 2026 and 2029.
