Nikos Kazantzakis

Domenikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco)

Kalokairinos, a businessman from Heraklion, was the first person to begin excavations at Knossos, in 1878, opening the way for the major archaeological discoveries that followed.

Spyros Moustaklis

Moustaklis, an army officer of Cretan origin, became a symbol of resistance against the military dictatorship in Greece, paying a heavy personal price for his stance, according to the report.
